Website Design

Project Love

Summary

As a group we were asked to work with a local nonprofit organization to help improve the functionality and overall design of their websites.

My Role

As the design lead for this project, I took ownership of its successful completion. I worked with two other designers. Along with being the lead I created the wireframes.

Users, Personas, and Tasks

We envision two distinct groups of users for this site. The first group, staff and volunteers, are those who are using the site as part of the work with the organization. The second group, potential volunteers and donors, are those users who are members of the general public and want to learn more information about the organization, potentially donating money to it. The user groups are distinct and have different goals, but have very similar users in terms of demographic, skills, and language requirements.

Project Love Coalition Staff/Volunteers:

Goals: Wants an easy-to-use system for broadcasting information to the public and managing volunteers

Tasks: Maintain calendar contact volunteers, schedule events. collect emails from donors/potential volunteers

Age: 20-65+ , Assumed to be average web user

Language: Relatively jargon-free non-technical, Knowledgeable of military/veterans issues

Potential Donors Goals:

Wants as much information about the organization without much need for searching

Tasks: Learn about Project Love Coalition, See list of sponsors, Donate to organization

Age: 35-65+

Language: Potentially unaccustomed to computers not used to searching through web pages understands language about military/veterans issues

Layout and Style Requirements

The website will generally be laid out in a single, responsive column of content per page. The organization logo will appear in the upper left of every page, and the company contact information will be in the upper right. The site will use a purple and black color scheme to match the organization colors with a light gray scheme for content and images. The site will utilize two navigation areas, a main nav and a sub nav to help users find desired information.

Information Architecture/ Content Categories: The main navigation for the site will include: About Us, Contact, Projects, Involvement, Wish List, Sponsors, and Donate. Each of these links will lead to a separate page within the site. The secondary navigation will expand the About Us page content and provide direct links to the Board of Directors and Volunteering information. For the internal pages, the content will appear in a single column with imagery alternating on the left and right side of the text to improve readability. The organization’s news page will be designed with a card structure which users will be able to scroll through to read the stories. Based on our competitive analysis, the main site will feature a large image carousel where users can find several featured links.

Goal

This site provides the Project Love Coalition with a public face for their organization. It will allow the organization to market itself to the general public while also allowing for internal distribution of information. The site will also allow the general public to easily interact with the organization in a digital space by getting involved, learning about the organization and donating money as well.

An aesthetic-driven UX Designer, with a compassionate, empathic approach to problem solving.
