Vista Coffee Project

Summary

The Vista Coffee Project website (www.vistacoffee.org) was created as a platform to sell coffee and provide information on ministries and missions which the organization supports. The vision behind Vista Coffee Project is to sell coffee from, and give the proceeds to, ministries or missions in coffee producing countries.

My Role

I am the sole researcher and designer for Vista Coffee Project. While this project is currently on hold and the website is no longer active. I do hold the domain and we (Vista Coffee Project) hope to be roasting and selling coffee to raise money for mission teams in the countries of origin in the near future.

Users & Tasks

Both users during user testing liked many of the design elements of the site, specifically the footer, with the vision statement and the watermark of the logo, the logo, the clean and simple design, and the ease of use.

Tasks: Purchasing Coffee User 1: 1 min 12 sec, felt the process was easy.

User 2: 1 min 37 sec, the user expressed some confusion over the “coffee” section and “store” section. But after looking at both pages, both services expressed a separate purpose for the overall goals of the Project.

Finding Information about a Ministry (getting to the ministries website)

User 1: 14 sec User 2: 18 sec ○ Both users found this task easy to complete

Research Results

Changes: Already made: In the wireframes was a “landing page”. This was removed during build out because it only added another step and didn’t serve a useful purpose for the site. The order of the top navigation was changed due website builders (Weebly) constraints.

To (possibly) be made: Increase the size of the logo in the header. More context for the Home Page photos. Adding more color. This could be done through photographs, not in the design. Adding information about “volunteering”, “donating”, “where to find our coffee in retail locations”, and “catering or serving coffee at Sunday morning services”

Goals

My goals in creating this interface were to have a functioning website, where users could learn about Vista Coffee Project. Users would be able to learn about different ministries or missions, and support them through the purchase of coffee from the countries in which they are located. I believe I was able to complete these goals through the design. Completing this project from start to finish helped me to see the importance of the first steps, much more than “just trying to build a website.” From sketching out, and seeing users work with, the wireframes to the actual building of the site felt very seamless. I was able to resolve many issues before they could even be issues.
